Immuron, a Melbourne‑based biotech, is taking an unconventional “gut‑first” approach to tackle NASH (non‑alcoholic steatohepatitis) through its investigational oral therapy IMM‑124E—an engineered bovine colostrum formulation packed with polyclonal antibodies targeted to suppress Gram‑negative bacteria that produce lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a potent pro‑inflammatory trigger. Rather than attacking the liver directly, IMM‑124E works in the gut to block LPS overgrowth and transit into the liver, thereby reducing inflammation and liver injury without harming the rest of the microbiota. The company’s proof‑of‑concept product, Travelan, has already demonstrated ~90% efficacy against traveller’s diarrhea, and trials are underway to assess IMM‑124E in NASH (Phase II), as well as in Clostridium difficile infection—highlighting its broader potential to address gut‑driven inflammatory diseases.
