In early March 2018, Immuron reported positive topline data from its mid‑stage (Phase II) trial of IMM‑124E in patients with biopsy‑proven NASH, revealing a statistically significant reduction in serum lipopolysaccharide (LPS)—a central driver of liver inflammation—compared to placebo. The study also demonstrated significant reductions in liver enzymes (ALT and AST) and the hepatocyte injury marker CK‑18 in treated patients, particularly at the higher dose, while confirming IMM‑124E’s excellent safety and tolerability given its retention within the gut and lack of systemic absorption. These findings, presented in a relatively small 133‑patient, 24‑week trial, provide strong proof‑of‑concept for IMM‑124E as a first‑in‑class oral LPS‑antagonist targeting gut‑mediated liver inflammation, and helped drive a sharp rise (around 81%) in the company’s share price.
